Hello, World!

Hello, World!

It only took a decade but I finally took the leap to setup a homepage that may better reflect my faceted identities, and collect the learnings and doings from a fairly long tenure in the tech ecosystem.

It was also a forcing function for me to start using Gatsby so I could play with React, GraphQL, JAMStack and more in my own sandbox.

And I wanted to start writing again! Having posts in an open source repository (as canonical source) was important - makes it easier to republish articles on third party sites without fear of losing content or having it locked behind paywalls without consent.

For the present, I elected to go with the Lumen Gatsby starter template. The setup process was relatively painless though I had to figure out a few things to get the site hosted on GitHub Pages with a custom domain. I jotted these down in a gist for now, and hope to publish a longer post on that for my own edification later.

After more than two decades in tech, I also feel strongly about paying it forward to ensure that the next generation is better equipped to deal with all the challenges of a fast-paced ecosystem - from upskilling (for career transition) to diversity (for better representation) and inclusion (for better tech cultures with emphasis on belonging and equity). I wrote this up as my personal mission a few years ago, and continue to try to live up to it.

Help translate awareness of technology into actionable impact on products, careers and communities.

My hope is that by sharing my journeys, learnings, achievements and failures, I can do a small bit to help another person feel less alone and more empowered to do more, better. My 2019 motto is going to be: {Try-Fail-Learn-Repeat}! I’ll leave you with two quotes that have seen me through some challenging times, and continue to inspire me today.

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do.

— Eleanor Roosevelt

“Nobody ever figures out what life is all about, and it doesn't matter. Explore the world. Nearly everything is really interesting if you go into it deeply enough.”

— Richard Feynman

PS. Don’t worry about the tags on this article. These are topics close to my heart that I hope to blog on, and this was just my way of seeding them ahead of time 😆
